Liverpool Architecture Festival 2024 is delighted to be working with Open Eye Gallery to facilitate a free to enter photography competition.

Join us for the Opening night for an early private viewing of the entries. The night will include a Prize Giving, a opportunity to look around the works and a drinks reception.

Winning and shortlisted entries will be exhibited in Open Eye Gallery’s covered atrium space and Digital Window Gallery, located within Mann Island in the heart of Liverpool’s famous waterfront. The exhibition will be free to the public during June.

The exhibition runs Tuesday 4th – Saturday 29th June (open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-5pm)

Competition Brief:

“Everyone is Moving - Your Journeys, Your Neighbourhoods”

The theme of the photography competition is Neighbourhoods – what do you consider as your neighbourhood, or neighbourhoods? Whether that be where you live, work, study, visit and your movement between these neighbourhoods. What aspects of your town and city are crucial to forming these neighbourhoods? Is it the street signage, the bus shelters, the pubs on the corner or the larger gathering spaces?

Photographs to capture the unique character of the diverse neighbourhoods of the Liverpool City Region within 6-9 snapshots.

Queer Places: The Exhibition

The Exhibition Launch

Join us for the exhibition launch of Queer Places - a growing archive of Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ Spaces: Past, Present & Future.

With thanks to Unit3 Design Studio for hosting, the exhibition will be celebrating the evening with art, drinks and a boogie with Liverpool's Asian Sensation, Dan Chan on the decks. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about queer heritage, connect with like-minded individuals and support our lovely community.

Tickets are limited so please book ahead. You can find tickets here.

When: Friday, 24 May 2024 18:00 - 21:00

The Exhibition

After the first sold-out event as part of Homotopia Festival 2023, we are excited to be sharing with you an immersive space filled with art, architectural models, photographs and artefacts - all celebrating Liverpool's iconic LGBTQ+ spaces.

The exhibition will be open to the public from the 3rd of June until the 30th of November 2024, Monday - Friday, 2-4pm.

You will also be able to purchase the beautifully curated Queer Places book, designed by artist, Luke Fawcett. All proceeds of the booklet will fund the future of Queer Places - where we already have planned community workshops, artist collaborations and further research.

Thank you for your support and follow us on Instagram @queerplaces to see what we are getting up to!
