Lighthouse Church

Join shedkm for a tour of Lighthouse Church in Heswall. The Liverpool based architects worked closely with The Parish of Heswall to embrace the Church’s established ethos of welcome, combined with improving street presence to create a sense of place with a strong new identity. The extensive glazing invites people to step inside and creates a new relationship with the existing streetscape and wider Heswall community, embracing the concept of hospitality already embraced by the church congregation. The church accommodates a wide range of outreach and community events including concerts, exhibitions, playgroups, youth activities, classes, counselling, and community support services.

Please meet 15 minutes before the tour is due to start

Southport: Re- imagining the Classical Victorian Resort

Southport: Re- imagining the Classical Victorian Resort

Tour and Presentation at the Engine Room and a Guided Walking Tour of Lord Street

Southport was once one of the most important Victorian seaside resorts, second only to Brighton.

Its historic Lord Street was an inspiration across Europe as a centre for fashion, shopping, wellness and entertainment.

With the changing fortunes of the British coasts in the wake of package holidays abroad, and retail moving online, particularly following the pandemic, Southport is working hard to diversify its economy into creative and digital hybrid working and related fields.

Slowly but surely the local authority, the business improvement district, educational providers and the community are reimagining new ways of using the historic built environment for innovative, inclusive and sustainable activities – reinventing the seaside of the future by building on the rich heritage and legacy of the past.

The tour will start with a look at the newly-opened Engine Room (a co-working and co-learning creative space, and an introduction by its Director, Dr Eric Lybeck, followed by a walking tour of Victorian Lord Street and the Townscape Heritage improvements led by a member of Sefton Council’s Historic Environment Team.

Access Information:

The whole walking tour route is accessible, and there is stair and lift access available within the Enginer Room building. Please contact hello@laf-uk.com if you have any accessibility concerns or queries.

After the first sold-out event as part of Homotopia Festival 2023, we are excited to be sharing with you an immersive space filled with art, architectural models, photographs and artefacts - all celebrating Liverpool's iconic LGBTQ+ spaces.

The exhibition will be open to the public from the 3rd of June until the 30th of November 2024, Monday - Friday, 2-4pm.

You will also be able to purchase the beautifully curated Queer Places book, designed by artist, Luke Fawcett. All proceeds of the booklet will fund the future of Queer Places - where we already have planned community workshops, artist collaborations and further research.
