The Everyman Theatre was founded in 1964 and was previosuly known as Hope Hall (once a chapel and cinema). In 2011 the theatre closed for a complete rebuild for what stands today, making it the most modern theatre we visit in this series of Behind the Curtain.

The new theatre was designed by Haworth Tompkins and reopned in 2014. That year the theatre won The Stirling Prize from RIBA for being the best British building of the year, beating The Shard in London.

Join shedkm for a tour of Lighthouse Church in Heswall. The Liverpool based architects worked closely with The Parish of Heswall to embrace the Church’s established ethos of welcome, combined with improving street presence to create a sense of place with a strong new identity. The extensive glazing invites people to step inside and creates a new relationship with the existing streetscape and wider Heswall community, embracing the concept of hospitality already embraced by the church congregation. The church accommodates a wide range of outreach and community events including concerts, exhibitions, playgroups, youth activities, classes, counselling, and community support services.

Southport: Re- imagining the Classical Victorian Resort

Tour and Presentation at the Engine Room and a Guided Walking Tour of Lord Street

Southport was once one of the most important Victorian seaside resorts, second only to Brighton.

Its historic Lord Street was an inspiration across Europe as a centre for fashion, shopping, wellness and entertainment.

With the changing fortunes of the British coasts in the wake of package holidays abroad, and retail moving online, particularly following the pandemic, Southport is working hard to diversify its economy into creative and digital hybrid working and related fields.

Slowly but surely the local authority, the business improvement district, educational providers and the community are reimagining new ways of using the historic built environment for innovative, inclusive and sustainable activities – reinventing the seaside of the future by building on the rich heritage and legacy of the past.

The tour will start with a look at the newly-opened Engine Room (a co-working and co-learning creative space, and an introduction by its Director, Dr Eric Lybeck, followed by a walking tour of Victorian Lord Street and the Townscape Heritage improvements led by a member of Sefton Council’s Historic Environment Team.

Croxteth Hall: Meet the Molyneux Guided Tour

Take a guided tour through the rooms of the Hall and find out how life was in a grand country house over one hundred years ago, a time of house parties for the aristocrats and their guests, supported by a small army of household staff. The guide will bring to life the background to the pictures, furnishings, architecture and personal belongings around the rooms, telling the story of the family and their changing fortunes. A great introduction to the fascinating history of the Hall and its occupants

Please book tickets ahead for a guided Walk tour. You can find tickets here.

Back in 2005 shedkm’s ‘MoHo’ was the UK’s first pre-fabricated apartment for private sale to make use of volumetric pre-fabrication technology. Almost 20 years on, shedkm are still leading the way in modular housing design. Their most recently completed modular scheme is Redbridge Quay, in the Northbank residential quarter at Wirral Waters – the first phase of a new waterside community on Birkenhead’s docks. Join shedkm and developer Peel Waters for an insider’s perspective on this important scheme for the Wirral, and have exclusive insight into shedkm’s radical new product that was conceived to allow three different house types to be employed interchangeably.

Architects shedkm are inviting you to look around East Float – part of the new Northbank community at Wirral Waters.

Please meet 15 minutes before the tour is due to start

As part of the LAF Festival 2024, Hooton Park Trust will proudly open Hooton Park to visitors from local neighbourhoods and the Liverpool region, who will be amongst the first to view the newly restored Grade II* Hangars.

Also featured is an archival film with 3D models. Architectural highlights will include the restoration work of the Hangars, featuring the wooden Belfast roof trusses.

The Hooton Park Hangars site is managed by The Hooton Park Trust (HPT), which was formed in 2000 with the aim of creating a Trust to oversee and manage the restoration of the remaining WW1 hangars on the former RAF airfield at Hooton Park, Cheshire. The long term aim is to provide a multifunctional site, as well as restoring the buildings and the site itself as valuable historic artefacts in their own right.

There is a Tea Room and shop on site which will be open for the tour duration.
